Symposium: Shapes of institutional racism and antisemitism in schools – GraL at the ORAS closing Symposium
The closing conference of the research project “ORAS – Organization, Racism, School” took place on 19 July 2025 at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Berlin under the title “Shapes of Institutional Racism and Antisemitism in Schools.” In three panels, 15 researchers from Bielefeld University, the University of Flensburg, the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, and EHB, as well as practitioners from anti-discrimination work and teachers from Berlin, presented current findings on racism and antisemitism in schools. Topics included experiences of racism and antisemitism among pupils and teacher education students, dealing with complaints about racism in schools, ethnographic observations of institutionally racist practices in schools, the role of school administration in combating discrimination, and the question of how the teaching profession could be shaped in a racism-critical way.
